Roxy Ball Room | Leeds

Roxy Ball Room in the heart of Leeds is one of the most popular places for us young things to hang nowadays (or so I hear) but until a couple of weeks ago I'd never actually been. With the option to play pool, ping pong, beer pong and mini golf it really is the first place of its kind to pop up in Leeds. It's a great place to go straight from work if you work in the centre, or even on a date to cancel out the possibility of any awkward silent atmospheres.

We were invited to go and try out the new food and cocktail menu as many people are aware of the fun and games you can get involved with at Roxy, but don't actually know about the great range of food and drinks on offer. Again I have to apologise for being a terrible blogger and forgetting my camera... I won't make a habit of it, I promise! I just rushed down straight from work so please forgive me if the photo quality isn't top notch.

After a glass of fizz on arrival me and my flat mate Maisy had a look around the different games areas and signed up for a round of Killer Pool with some of the other bloggers. I was completely terrible and somehow knocked a ball from the pool table onto the floor, much to everybody's amusement, but it was good fun! It was a really busy evening, possibly due to it being St. Patrick's Day, so we didn't get a chance to play a full game of pool (probably for the best as I may have killed someone with a pool ball). Although we did sit and watch some games whilst chatting our way through a few cocktails and eating pizza.

If tasty burgers and pizzas are your kind of thing then the menu at Roxy won't disappoint. It's not a place I would originally think of going to for food but now I've had a chance to try out the menu I'll definitely return for a meal. If you're anything like me and can't resist an indulgent side order then you have to try the mac and cheese balls - deep fried cheesy pasta. I'll say no more.

There was a selection of pizzas on offer including the Cheesesteak (steak, rocket and red pepper), Meat Feast (steak, pepperoni, salami and parma ham), the Pesto Chicken and Parma Ham plus a veggie option. Personally, I'm a meat feast kinda girl but I went for a slice of the Cheesesteak to change things up and it was equally as delicious.

I'm a huge burger fan, as you'll know if you've been reading my blog for a while, so I would choose a juicy beef burger over a chicken burger every day of the week. However, I think it's great that Roxy has a mix of both on the menu as I know a load of my friends would always rather a chicken burger. My favourite had to be the Cheese & Bacon Burger (double American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise), I'm a strong believer that you can't beat a classic! Saying that, the Pulled Pork Burger came a close second.

I think one of my favourite parts of the menu was the Cracked Pepper Chips, more like a crinkle cut chip than regular fries, I couldn't stop snacking on them even though I was stuffed. The overall menu is reasonably priced (a large pizza is £10) and there's loads of great deals to make it even cheaper on certain days. I particularly like that the starters/sides are on a permanent 3 for £10 offer meaning you could just share some dishes whilst waiting for a game of pool. You can see the full food menu here.

Throughout the evening we tried four of the Roxy Signature cocktails;

Match Point - Botanist Gin, Passoa passionfruit liqueur shaken with lemon juice, sugar syrup, fresh basil, passionfruit puree and topped with prosecco
Hendricks Flute - Hendricks gin, St Germain liqueur, lemon juice and sugar syrup topped with prosecco
A Perfect Serve - Luxardo amaretto with chambord shaken with cranberry and lemon juices, sweetened with vanilla syrup, fresh raspberries and rosemary
Slice, Slice Baby - Absolut raspberry vodka shaken with fresh mint and raspberries, apple liqueur, lemon and apple juice and sweetened with passionfruit syrup

Ordinarily I would always choose a gin cocktail as my favourite but surprisingly I really enjoyed "A Perfect Serve". I'm not sure if it's because I never drink amaretto but it was really tasty and so easy to drink. The Roxy Signature cocktails range from £6.50 to £7.50 and all of the classic cocktails are priced at £6.95, really affordable and similarly priced to surrounding bars.

Now I've been to Roxy Ball Room I'm looking forward to trying out Roxy Lanes just down the street where you can also order food and cocktails (thankfully I'm better at bowling than pool). Have you been to Roxy yet? What did you think?

  1. I used to walk past this place every day on my way to work when I lived in Leeds. Can't believe I never went in - it looks like so much fun! And the pizzas look amazing.
