Ladies Day at the Races

I'm a huge fan of going to the races whether it's taking a picnic for a day out with my family or, in more recent years, dressing up and spending time with friends. When I was contacted by Natasha at Branded3, to see if I wanted to take part in the Ladbrokes Grand National Ladies Day competition I decided it was worth a shot. I love the excitement of getting ready and being able to wear something you'd never otherwise get a chance to wear. Plus, it's an added bonus to be in with the chance of winning two hospitality package tickets to the Grand National.

As soon as I read the words "Ladies Day" I had an outfit in mind. I bought this gorgeous dress from Topshop for my 21st, because there's no better time to dress like a bit of diva/princess than your birthday. It's so far removed from my usual style and I think that's what I love the most about it. Everything about the dress is very fifties, from the shape to the print and material but it's girly and fun which is perfect for the races.

A bardot, off-shoulder is one of my favourite styles, I think it flatters any size or shape and if, like me, you have a smaller top half it really accentuates your best asset. The cinched waist and layered skirt are also great for balancing out your body shape and creating a lovely hourglass figure.

On special occasions when I'm getting dolled up, I love a having a bright colour to accessorise with and the coral feature colour on the dress is perfect. I chose a matching clutch bag and some suede courts plus my favourite Bobbi Brown lipstick - it might not be summer yet but it's never too early to inject some colour into an outfit like this.

I also wanted to show you all that it's not all about spending the most money to look the best, I bought everything in this post from high-street stores and they're all items I will happily use again. So, don't let the thought of the cost of buying a new outfit put you off a day at the races - it doesn't have to be expensive!

Dress - Topshop
Clutch bag - H&M
Court shoes - Primark

Watch - Shore Projects
Rings - Pandora and vintage
Lipstick - Bobbi Brown (Lady Ruba)

This year I'm looking forward to York Races in the summer and Cheltenham is definitely on my list to visit next year. Do you enjoy dressing up for the races? Let me know your favourite places for dress hunting in the comments!

  1. Beautiful dress! I definitely agree with you that shopping doesn't ever have to be expensive- I know I'm a real budgeter, haha! I think my go-to place for dresses are Forever 21 or this one cute shop, Blame Betty (oh so retro)
